The biobank is established in 2013, and officially opened in 2014. It’s managed by the Medical Research Center. The biobank has 300 square meters space and sound infrastructure, such as biological sample separation equipment, sample freezing equipment, pathological sample preparation equipment and other large expensive equipment. The biobank also has sample information resources management workstation and electronic temperature control system. The sample operation processes and quality control system were established based on the international standard Best Practices Guide of Biobank (ISBER).

The hospital has established the "Biobank Management Committee" aimed to improve the operation of the biobank. All technicians work in the biobank are professionally trained and has gain biobank certification.

The biobank classify the tissue samples according to single-gene disorder. Base on the Best Practices Guide of biobank (ISBER), it establishes the Standard Operative Procedure (SOP) for collection, recording, processing, storage, in and out of stock, transportation, ethics and staff training within the biobank. The SOP is strictly implemented in practice.   Information management system is applied on the entire process of tissue collection, recording, storage, in stock/out stock and so on. All tissues are identified by the system using QR code. In 2015, the biobank information system is connected with hospital information system (HIS). At the same time, the quality control system of sample storage was established to ensure the quality of clinical data.

Biobank will play an important role in promoting clinical research and precision medicine in our hospital.
