Nursing Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-SenUniversity is a comprehensive nursing system with the integrated development of nursing management, clinical nursing, nursing teaching and scientific research. At present, it has 68 nursing units and 1,463 nursing staffmembers totally, including 3 persons with senior title, 49 persons with vice-senior title and 29 masters. It has won the titles of key connected hospital of "high quality nursing service demonstration project" issued by the Ministry of Health and the "high quality nursing service demonstration hospital" in Guangdong Province successively, and become a national clinical key professional construction projectspecialized in clinical nursing. It has won the first prize in (2009) Guangdong employees vocational skills competitionof intravenous infusion nursing, the second prize in (2009) "Yangpu Cup" nursing materials innovation competition held by Guangdong Provincial Nursing Association, the second prize in (2011) Guangdong nursing continuous quality management achievements exhibition, the second prize in (2012) Guangdong female employees of medical nursing position innovation skills competition, the second prize and third prize in (2014) "Guangdong nursing materials innovation competition", etc. 3 nurses have won the honorable title of "municipal Nightingale prize for outstanding nurses", 1 head nurse has won the honorable titles of "Guangdong good nurse" and "outstanding nurses in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao" issued by Hong Kong Nurses Association.
Clinical Nursing Characteristics
Along with the continuous innovation of nursing service modes, the Department has raised a specialty construction project of "four ones" and formulated the development planning of "one department with one clinic, one project with one expert" around the objective of characteristic specialty development. It has trained a bunch of specialized nurses that covers 17 specialties, such as intensive care and stoma and wound care. It has set up 11 specialty nursing clinics, including stoma/wound care, diabetes care, vein intubation and maintenance, midwifery care, pregnancy nutrition care, abortion and contraception care (PAC), child nutrition, incontinence care, rheumatism care, deglutition care and mammary care, which can provide professional nursing service to over 20,000 patients each year. At present, the midwifery clinic has become one of Guangdong midwifery clinic demonstration units, the PAC quality service has become the hospital demonstration clinic, the department of hepatobiliary surgery was honored as "high quality nursing service appraisal outstanding ward" and the department of endocrinology has won the "excellent service position" issued by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China. Meanwhile, relying on the national key specialty project development, it has built 7 characteristic nursing service items, including nutrition management, psychosocial care, early rehabilitation, DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) prevention and control, case management, constipation prevention and continued nursing, and it has trained a bunch of nutritionists, psychological consultants, rehabilitation nurses and tumor case managers. It has gradually formed a unique clinical nursing mode of "specialized nurses, special management for patients" integrated with holistic nursing and specific nursing with the characteristics of the Third Affiliated Hospital.
Teaching and Research Strength
As the major clinical teaching base of Sun Yat-Sen University College of Medicine, the hospital is committed to training practical nursing talents, strives to innovate and reform the clinical teaching mode and has made remarkable achievements. It trains more than 200 students for over 10 universities and colleges each year and especially serves as the major clinical teaching and practice base for the postgraduate students of nursing specialty of Sun Yat-Sen University. It has won 6 educational reform fund programs launched by Sun Yat-Sen University and won numerous awards as follows: the "clinical teaching excellent paper award", the second prize of "multimedia teaching courseware", the undergraduate education comprehensive contribution award, the excellent instructor award in the first national undergraduate nursing operation skills competition, the first prize in Sun Yat-Sen University nursing interns clinical skills competition and the first prize in instructor group, the grand prize of Guangdong clinical nursing teaching ward round skills display and so on.
With the growing influence in nursing subject, it has organized study classes for 26 times in the past five years, accepted thousands of training students all over the country, served as 4 specialized nurses training bases of wound and stoma care, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing and clinical nursing education for Guangdong Nursing Association, established the Sino -Germany International Wound Therapists (Guangzhou) Training School together with Germany Association of Chronic Wound and the International Quality Control System, and become the first hospital in South China and the third in China to acquire such qualification.
It has taken charge of over 10 provincial ministry-level and above scientific research projects and 7 lateral research projectsover the years, as well as over 10 hospital-level nursing research projects each year. It has published over 1000 research papers in China and abroad, including over 30 core journal works and SCI papers, and participated over 10 works as chief or a key editor.
