General practice is a comprehensive medical professional discipline that integrates clinical medicine,preventive medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and humanities and social sciences; its main purpose is to emphasize people-centered, family-based, community-based, long-term comprehensive and responsible care in the direction of the maintenance and promotion of overall health, and integrate individual and group health.
In October 2018, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University was formally established department of general practice, set up outpatient, teaching clinic and hospital ward with 20 sickbeds. At present, there are 12 medical personnel in the department, including a chef physician and doctoral supervisor, an associate chief physician and master supervisor, one receive PhD, 10 receive master’s degree, one receive MD; there also are 13 nursing personnel, including an associate professor of nursing. In the management of common disease, frequently occurring disease and chronic disease in internal medicine, they are skilled diagnosis and treatment techniques, as well as rich experience in diagnosis and treatment, and they embody patient-centered humanistic care everywhere.
The Department of general practice belongs to the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. It is the first base of national standardization residency training in general practice, which was established in 2011. The director of the department, Chief Physician Zhang Kouxing, served as the chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Primary Medicine Association General Practice Committee, and the Standing Committee of the General Practice Branch of the Guangdong Provincial Medical Association. The faculty of the department of general practice is formidable, with rich clinical teaching experience and a good general teaching philosophy. In recent years, our department has trained more than 80 outstanding resident training doctors. The passing rate of practicing doctors and the completion rate of resident training are 100%. The teaching results have been positively affirmed by the national and provincial residential training expert groups. Actively organizing academic exchanges, we are committed to developing "Practice" and "Research" both live training students.
At present, there are two community grassroots medical and health institutions (Shipai Health Service Center and Xiancun Health Service Center) as our department's planning and training cooperation units, and they have coordinated to complete the training of accompany doctors. In the future, more community primary medical and health institutions will be added as cooperative units, and experts will be regularly sent to give lectures and expert consultations to community primary medical and health institutions, providing community residents with high-quality and convenient medical services.
